Direct Action
Artists Under Pressure!
IHRAM responds
The International Human Rights Art Movement has begun the process of initiating a Direct Action granting program, to respond to artists-at-risk from around the world, who reach out to us on a weekly basis. Recent emails received include:
”Even feeding on a daily basis is a big problem, as well as knowing where I will sleep. I am at risk because of my Queer works.” Aron Touch, Uganda
”Because of my ethical stance against corruption and my refusal to comply with unlawful practices, I have been subjected to defamation, isolation, and threats. I am unable to live with dignity, peace, or safety.” Mustafa Abdulmalek Abdulaziz Abdulmajeed Alsumaidi, Yemen
“I am a Venezuelan independent pop singer-songwriter, currently displaced in Argentina due to the political and humanitarian crisis in my country. My wife and I have been surviving under extreme conditions: undocumented, homeless, and without access to stable income, food, or shelter.” David Rangel, Venezuela
Help us help them HERE!
Vision: We believe in a world where artists are free to use their creativity to provide an engine for social change, and their work is honored as a human right.
Mission: We amplify the critical voices of artists who risk their lives to bring human rights issues to the forefront of conversation and inspire social change around the world.
Values: Beauty as a fundamental creative value; sincerity and vulnerability of presentation; opening doorways of
